Toxcicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP)

The Toxcicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) is designed to simulate the possibility of contaminants leaching waste material, over time, in a landfill.

The test is carried out by testing the buffering capability of the material. Then, based on this result, an extraction solution is selected and the material is extracted over an 18-hour period.

The resulting extract is then analyzed using ICP-AES technology for the metals of interest.

Below is a list of the typical metals analyzed using this procedure…

TCLP-7 Metals
  • Arsenic (As)
  • Barium (Ba)
  • Cadmium (Cd)
  • Chromium (Cr)
  • Lead (Pb)
  • Selenium (Se)
  • Silver (Ag)
TCLP-8 Metals
  • TCLP-7 Metals + Mercury (Hg)
